On April 18, 2010, the members of the JFK Rotary Club will be hosting their major fundraiser, The Thomas Carmody Memorial – JFK Rotary Club “5K Runway Run”

Brief Description
Rotarians from Queens, N.Y. close a portion of JFK Int’l Airport Runway for a good cause and fun for the whole family, you’re invited to join them! The first race was run in April 1972, it is a very unique race since runners actually run on the longest Runway at JFK which is almost 14,000 feet, although only a short portion of the main runway is used for the race. The funds raised are used to assist many organizations, mostly dealing with children.

Haiti Earthquake Relief
Due to the devastating earthquake in Haiti, a portion of the proceeds will be donated to the “Haiti Earthquake Relief Effort”.

Day of Race Registration!
Day of Race Registration Accepted $25 for Adults; $12 Students w/Proper ID (Cash or Check only). Must Arrive no Later than 8:00 a.m. to register. FREE PARKING!!!

T-Shirts and Goody Bags
5K Runway Run T-Shirts and Goody Bags will be guaranteed to anyone who is pre-registered. Mailed in applications must be received by April 3, 2010 to guarantee a personalized Event T-Shirt and Goody Bag. There will be a limited number of “5K Runway Run” T-Shirts and Goody Bags for day of race registrants (first come, first get basis).

Raffle Tickets
Raffle Tickets will be available for purchase day of race. Book of 5 for $20.00 -> Chance to win Airline Tickets, TV, DVD, US Open Tennis Tickets, Baseball Tickets, etc. If you cannot attend the race, but would like to purchase Raffle Tickets to help support our fundraiser, please call Emmlynn Taylor @ 973-432-5056.

Additional Information
www.JFKRunwayRun.org – 5K (3.2 miles) course on the runway of JFK Airport – Starts at 9:00am sharp. Eligibility: Open to all runners, all age groups ~ walkers welcomed – Includes fruit, water, and free t-shirt. Pick up your number on the day of the race – Race starts and finishes at Bldg. 14 at JFK Int’l Airport – Registration is from 7:00am to 8:30am – Results will be posted 20 to 30 minutes after the race. On-Line Registration $20.00/Adults; $12 Students and children 14 and under+ $3.25 Processing Fee ~ Race day registration is $25.

The funds raised from the “JFK Rotary Club ~ 5K Runway Run” are used to support organizations such as The Gift of Life International Inc.; they sponsor terminally ill children from countries with limited medical and technological services, for life-saving heart operations. Boy Scouts “Air Explorer” Program; a co-ed program for students who have a career interest in the aviation industry. The Mill Neck Manor School for the Deaf; they enhance the quality of life for people who are Deaf, or who have other special communication needs. In addition, due to the devastating earthquake in Haiti, a portion of the proceeds will be donated to the “Haiti Earthquake Relief Effort”.
